MANILA – Filipino bare-knuckle boxing champion Rolando “The Incredible” Dy made good on his bold pre-fight prediction, stopping British challenger Scott McHugh in the third round to retain his BKB Super Welterweight World Championship at BKB 60 in Newcastle, England.
Fighting on his opponent’s home turf, Dy backed up his promise to finish McHugh before the final bell, delivering a decisive third-round stoppage to successfully defend his world title.
The Filipino champion had entered the contest determined to avoid a judges’ decision, particularly with McHugh enjoying the advantage of fighting before his home crowd.
“Just very obsessed on winning. I love winning kasi looser ako lumaki. As much as possible ayokong dumating sa decision kasi that’s his homecourt e. So the plan is to knock him out maybe in round 3. I will give him round 3, if tama ako. Alam mo ‘yon, I’m just a human so pwede akong magkamali. Pero if tama ako, I’ll finish him in round 3,” Dy said before the fight.
True to his words, Dy ended the contest in the very round he had predicted, denying McHugh an opportunity to wrest the championship before his hometown supporters.
The victory improved Dy’s professional bare-knuckle boxing record to 7-1, further cementing his reputation as a formidable competitor in the super welterweight division.
McHugh, meanwhile, saw his record slip to 16-6 following the defeat.
Beyond retaining his championship belt, Dy’s triumph underscored his ability to perform under pressure and deliver against international opposition, even in hostile territory.
The Newcastle victory marked another significant achievement in Dy’s bare-knuckle boxing career as he continued to strengthen his standing on the international stage./PN
