PRO-NIR probes school threats in NegOcc, tightens security

BACOLOD City — The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has launched investigations into reported threats against schools in Negros Occidental circulating on social media and intensified security measures to ensure the safety of students, teachers and school personnel.

PRO-NIR Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales said police immediately coordinated with school authorities and implemented security measures following reports involving Ramon Torres Senior High School in Bago City and another school-related incident in Victorias City.

“The safety of our children and our educators is non-negotiable,” Reales said, assuring the public that authorities would pursue a thorough investigation and hold those responsible accountable in accordance with due process and the law.

Police have increased their visibility and patrols in affected areas while working to identify the individuals behind the threatening social media posts.

The PRO-NIR is also coordinating with appropriate cybercrime authorities to preserve digital evidence and establish the identities of those responsible.

Reales said the regional police office is working closely with school officials and other stakeholders to strengthen security and ensure that classes and other school activities can continue in a safe environment.

He urged parents, students, teachers and school personnel to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or threatening messages to the nearest police station or through official police communication channels.

The police director also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary fear and panic among students, parents and school personnel.

He stressed that threats of violence, whether made online or offline, are serious offenses that authorities will address in accordance with the law.

Reales called on community members to cooperate with investigators by providing credible information that could help establish the source and credibility of the reported threats.

He emphasized that maintaining school safety requires the collective efforts of law enforcement agencies, school administrators, parents, students and the wider community.

The PRO-NIR assured the public that appropriate security measures would remain in place as investigations continue, reiterating its commitment to protecting learners and educators from threats of violence./PN
