Eggnog, and that night in Bern

BASED on their biographies, and the documentary films about them, I think Lady Gaga or Elton John would become one of my best friends after a lunch date.

I’m pretty confident I will be best friends with famous people easily after a lunch date.

Lunch is pretty long.

I make good friends over coffee.

If I have lunch with the Queen of England or the Pope, and we don’t end up being best friends, you can be sure it’s not because I am boring, or ignorant.

My favorite wintertime food is eggnog (with alcohol, course — brandy, rum, whisky, or bourbon).

I’m not so big on food nowadays.

But when I first lived in Macau about 30 years ago, I was introduced to rabbit and snake meat as great winter food.

And I liked it because those meats warmed me up.

These days, living in the American east coast, I prefer all sorts of soup for the winter — ramen, tom yum, lotus soup, egg drop, laksa, even fish sinigang, and chicken tinola.

If I had to marry one fictional character from TV or a movie, would I have anyone less than Prince Charming?

I mean, seriously!

I’m also thinking Superman, but I really want to marry Clark Kent.

It’s Clark Kent over Bruce Wayne, over Peter Parker.

But Peter Parker is a good second choice.

I went to computers because of word processing.

(I’m a writer, for Pete’s sake!)

It’s still largely the reason why I open my computer.

I honestly don’t play games on my computer (or even on my iPhone).

I’ve edited films on my computer.

Saved photos on it, maybe organize my iTunes music.

But these days, in addition to word processing, I only use my computer for social media.

I’m a cheap traveler.

That’s why I can afford to tour so many places around the world.

I’m not a hotel guy.

I’m okay with less stellar arrangements like dorm-type hostels.

If I’m paying, it should be worth it.

I wouldn’t pay for room accommodations that are less than eight hours.

So you can imagine me just staying in the airport, or train station for five or six hours.

One time, in Switzerland, my train arrived in Bern after midnight, and the next train is not until about 5:30 in the morning.

The Bern train station actually closes to the public around 1 a.m. so I had to go out.

Well, instead of paying €170 for a room in a nearby hotel, I went to a pub that closed at 3 a.m., and went back to the train station to sleep in the streetside elevator.

It’s only the worst place I have ever tried to sleep because it was embarrassing how cheap a person I was. Haha.

The polar continents are the places in the world that I’ve never been, but really want to go.

Not because of any special reason, but only so I can check them off, and say, I’ve been there, done that.

Otherwise, I’m okay and pretty settled with the places I’ve been to.

I’m not really itching to go to some particular place right now.

I mean, I’ll go where I can afford to go next, but I’m not singling any place at this time.

Unless I win the lottery, I do not think I really want to spend money to go to the Arctic, or the Antarctic.

I have long known that I am a journey person.

Which means I love the journey more than the arrival.

I enjoy wanting things more than getting what I want.

I can see that in my Amazon online shopping.

I put things in my cart and wishlists, stay wanting the stuff for a while, even get excited when I order and anticipate their delivery.

But once I get what I ordered, some of the packages often remain unopened.

Needless to say, I still have books unread, and DVD movies unwatched.

In my dating life after I became a widower, I like the pursuit of boys and men, but I kind of dislike many of them once we consummate with sex.

Like, I often feel most of these preys are not worth the chase. (500tinaga@gmail.com/PN)
