KALIBO, Aklan – Several areas of Barangay Poblacion in this capital town are under granular enhanced community quarantine and surgical enhanced community quarantine to prevent the further spread of coronavirus disease 2019.

Kalibo mayor Emerson Lachica’s Executive Order No. 64 enforced granular lockdown in Puroks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of C. Laserna Street-Interior, while a SECQ was implemented in Mabina Area and Sto. Niño Village.

The lockdowns began on Sept. 20 until Oct. 5.

Kalibo over the weekend reported 33 active COVID-19 cases with five deaths. These active infections were from Barangay Poblacion with two deaths recorded.

Lachica imposed a 10-hour curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the town’s populous areas, from the present 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to restrain the children and elders from going out of their residences.

Hours before the local lockdown restrictions are enforced, some residents left Kalibo’s highly-populated areas while some resorted to panic buying due to fear of a lockdown. Others remained in their puroks after the quarantine started on Sunday evening.

The mayor also directed policemen and barangay watchmen to set up strict border controls with the spike of coronavirus cases in the areas.

Residents placed under community lockdown will receive food assistance and medicine needs for the duration of their quarantine. Selling and drinking of alcoholic drinks in public places, bars, and restaurants are prohibited.

Establishments and businesses situated within the critical zones are temporarily closed except for offices, establishments and hospitals engaged in essential services are allowed to open.

A quarantine pass is also given to every household for purposes of buying essential needs.

Only Authorized Persons Outside of Residence and individuals who need immediate hospital care and management are allowed to enter and exit the critical zones while all forms of public and private transportation are restricted along the streets and alleys of the areas.

Meanwhile, Sitio Libuton-B and Sitio Ilaya in Barangay Bakhaw Norte continue to maintain the granular lockdown following two Aklan provincial hospital staff contracted COVID-19. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
