BACOLOD City — Eight local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental will receive a total of P50 million in financial assistance from Malacañang to help families affected by Typhoon “Tino.”
The funds, provided by the Office of the President, have been downloaded to the provincial government.
On January 6, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) approved Resolution No. 044, Series of 2026, authorizing Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson to sign memorandum of agreement (MOAs) with the beneficiary LGUs for the distribution of the assistance from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
Under the approved allocation, La Carlota City and the municipalities of La Castellana and Moises Padilla will each receive P10 million; Bago City, Binalbagan, and Hinigaran will get P5 million each; while Pontevedra and Isabela are allotted P2.5 million each.
Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said the governor immediately signed the MOAs with the eight LGUs upon receipt of the SP certification to fast-track the release of funds.
“We are doing everything to hasten the downloading of assistance to the LGUs. As soon as the mayors sign the contracts, checks can be issued and delivered,” Diaz said.
Typhoon “Tino” caused widespread damage in several areas of Negros Occidental, particularly in La Castellana, Bago City, and nearby towns, destroying homes and livelihoods and resulting in reported casualties.
