KALIBO, Aklan – Sixteen Ati-Atihan bands are vying to challenge defending champion Kanamiturn Drummers in Patik Ati Battle of Ati-Atihan Bands contest today, January 12.
Balik Patik, now renamed Patik Ati, has its own street dancing competition (sadsad) from Mabini Street towards Kalibo Pastrana Park from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The event is organized by the local government of Kalibo through the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival Board (Kafeb).
The crowded field of participants includes Merisi Bote Nga, D’Emagine, OHM Society, D’Kalipayan, Inzans Band, Kaizen, Akatsi, Was-ag, Carmerose Pagmukeat, Apes of Sta. Cruz, Atras Abante (Mga Inapo ni Datu Kalantiaw), Was Was Aranas, The Truth Kamatuoran, D’Cousins Isla Bao, La Confianza Kumporme, and Los Companeros.
Akatsi was adjudged third place, while Apes of Sta. Cruz (The Monkeys Tribe) was declared second place in the 2025 edition of the contest.
The contingents will be judged based on musicality, 70% (clarity, synchronization, rhythm and timing, and loudness) and performance, 30% (creativity, energy and spirit, uniform/costume, coordination and uniformity, overall impact and entertainment value).All bands are expected to perform the traditional Kalibo Ati-Atihan dance steps and drumbeats throughout their performances. The Kalibo Ati-Atihan Patik must be incorporated also in all the music played by participating bands.
First placer will take home P50,000, second placer, P30,000 and third place will receive P20,000. Consolation prize winners will get P10,000 each./PN
