El Niño crop damage in NegOcc now at P87M

BACOLOD City – The ongoing drought caused by El Niño has so far caused P87 million in crop damages in Negros Occidental.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday morning that the latest report he received from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist showed that most of the damages were on rice and corn fields.

Lacson also revealed that he received an “unsigned” copy of the assessment report from the Bureau of Soils and Water Management, and the latter is not recommending cloud seeding.

The bureau reasoned that conducting a cloud seeding will damage around 20,000 mango trees in San Carlos City, and another 5,000 trees in neighboring Guimaras island.

“They do not recommend, but as I’ve said this is not signed yet so it’s unofficial,” Lacson added. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
