Elderly woman killed, 3 others hurt in Bacolod motorcycle crash

BACOLOD City — An elderly woman was killed while three others, including her husband and two motorcycle riders, were injured in a road accident along Lacson Street in front of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) at about 3:41 a.m. on June 25.

The fatality was identified only by her alias, Rosita Patoc, 63, a resident of E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.

Police said Patoc died at the scene after sustaining severe head injuries when she struck the pavement following the collision.

Her husband, identified only as Genaro, 73, also of E.B. Magalona, sustained injuries and was rushed to CLMMRH for treatment.

Also injured were the motorcycle driver, identified only as Zyrll, 24, of Barangay 9, Bacolod City, and his back rider, John, 32, of Barangay 12, Bacolod City.

Initial investigation by the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Bacolod City Police Office (TEU-BCPO) showed that the elderly couple had just come from CLMMRH and were crossing Lacson Street through the designated pedestrian lane toward the east when they were allegedly struck by the speeding motorcycle.

Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling northbound at an estimated speed of 70 kilometers per hour when the collision occurred.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit, with assistance from Bacolod City Police Station 2, is conducting a further investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash./PN
