MANILA – No more fireworks during the holiday season?
The Department of Health (DOH) said they are “prepared” to present their proposed executive order (EO) calling for a nationwide firecracker ban “anytime the President calls for a cabinet meeting.”
“We have drafted the EO and we will be submitting to the Office of (Presidential Management Staff) by this week,” said Sec. Paulyn Ubial on Tuesday.
In a separate interview, Ubial said her agency wants to reduce the use of fireworks at community level.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier said he will let his Cabinet secretaries decide whether or not to ban the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics.
Duterte cited “economic” and “social” impacts of the possible ban.
“I am going to have a Cabinet meeting kasi mawalan ng negosyo… so I would need the Cabinet to decide. It would be a cabinet decision,” the President explained./PN
