Escalante shooting hurts laborer

BACOLOD City – A 61-year-old laborer was wounded in a shooting incident in Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

Resident Felipe Dacaldacal sustained gunshot wounds on the body, a police report showed.

The suspect was only identified as a certain “Astro” of Toboso, Negros Occidental, the report added.

Police investigators said Astro peppered Dacaldacal with bullets using an unidentified caliber gun after a heated argument ensued between them around 8 p.m. on June 7. The suspect accused Dacaldacal of being a member of the New People’s Army, which the latter denied.

Dacaldacal was brought to the Dr. Vicente Gustilo Memorial District Hospital in Escalante City but was later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

Officers of the Escalante City police station conducted a manhunt operation against Astro, who fled after the incident./PN
