ANTIQUE – Antiqueños and visitors can now revisit the life and legacy of the late governor and democracy icon Evelio B. Javier, as his memorabilia collection opens for public viewing at the New Capitol starting today, September 1.
Gov. Paolo Javier said the exhibit, which showcases personal belongings and keepsakes of his late uncle, will be housed at the Antique Provincial Tourism Building. Among the highlights are the clothes Javier wore on the day of his assassination, along with photographs, medals, and other mementos that reflect his advocacies and contributions to the province and the nation.
The collection was first displayed at Museo Antiqueño in the Old Capitol in the 2000s, alongside the archives of Tomasa “Lola Masing” Salinog, a World War II comfort woman. It was later transferred to the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Building in 2018 during the Old Capitol’s renovation, before being moved again to the Tourism Building in 2022 following the dismantling of the IBP Building.
The Evelio B. Javier Memorabilia is one of three major exhibits organized by the Antique Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (APTCAO) to launch the province’s 2025 Tourism Month celebration. Gov. Javier will lead the opening ceremony, which also features the Tourism Travel Booth Exhibit and Mixes, an art showcase by Antiqueño artists at the Old Capitol Building.
Mixes presents a vibrant collection of watercolor and ceramic artworks inspired by Philippine fruits. Participating artists include CANCAN, Clarisse Bergantino, Eleni Luces, Isay Francisco, Jose Ronnie Golingay, Krisna Morales, M. de los Santos, Saru, Shekinah Sibugan, Tinee Delgado, Tino Huang, and XNT.
All three exhibits are free of charge and will be open to the public throughout September, including weekends, during office hours./PN
