BACOLOD City – A former cop is feeding the Negros Island police information regarding officers allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade, revealed Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, regional police director.
But Gumban clarified that any information from Clarence Dongail, a detainee at the New Bilibid Prison, are being verified.
Dongail, a former chief inspector at the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), was convicted of kidnapping and murdering a former barangay captain here and two maritime instructors.
He is currently serving a 120-year prison term at the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa City.
“Na-interview to sia (Dongail) sang aton mga officials nga iban kag nag-drop sia sang mga ngalan sang contacts niya nga mga (police) officials diri sa Bacolod City,” said Gumban.
Some of those Dongail named were still allegedly engaged in the illicit trade, he said. “Gin-validate na naton. Ang iban positive sa gihapon asta subong.”
Gumban admitted personally knowing some of the alleged “narco-cops.”
“Ang iban da mga kilala ko man, mga tawo ko man sang una,” he said. “Kon involved ka, wala ko sang may mahimo da. Pasensyahanay ta.”
Meanwhile, Gumban disclosed that two of the three officers set for relief before Christmas were already sacked Friday, Dec. 16.
Inspector Stephen Boniba will be transferred to the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, while Police Officer 3 Dave Dapat will be sent to the PRO-Cordillera.
Both were presently assigned at the BCPO.
At least 10 more officers in the island region were recommended for relief. Their names will be sent to the Philippine National Police (PNP) national headquarters Monday next week, Dec. 19, Gumban said.
“Wala gid na sila nagliwat. Abi nila indi sila madakpan kag indi naton mabal-an ang ila mga ginahimo,” he said.
He stressed that he had been warning all Negros Island police officers.
“Ginhambal ko na sa ila nga gina-validate na naton ang mga reports,” said Gumban. “Sila (those facing relief or already relieved) sang una pa na involved sa drugs, either [user] or pusher.”
He vowed that the PNP will continue cleansing its ranks until no more officers are involved in the drug trade./PN
