ILOILO City – A former personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was arrested in Barangay Banica, Roxas City for half a million pesos of shabu.

The 38-year-old Baldwin Chua of San Roque Street, Roxas City was busted around 1 p.m. by police operatives.

He was considered a high-value target, according to Superintendent Luther Lugo, Roxas City police chief.

Chua was previously assigned at the BJMP facility in Barangay San Jose, Roxas City. He had been under surveillance for quite some time.

On Friday, an undercover police officer was able to buy from Chua a sachet of shabu for P1,000.

“He did not know that his client was a policeman,” said Lugo.

Aside from the sachet of shabu he sold to the cop, Chua yielded 60 more grams of the illegal drug with a street value of P500,000.

A .45 pistol with six bullets were also recovered from the suspect.

Chua was dismissed from the BJMP five years ago for being AWOL (absent without official leave).

According to Lugo, however, the police station received information that Chua was already into drug peddling even when he was still with the BJMP.

“We arrested him in front of his newly constructed house. We are wondering where he got his money to build his new house because he has no permanent work,” said Lugo.
