Ex-detainee yields P180-T ‘shabu’

BACOLOD City – Twelve grams of suspected shabu were recovered from a former detainee in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

The suspected drugs seized from the 28-year-old Carlos “Otay” Jaen were valued at around P180,000, police said.

A drug buy-bust operation that officers from the Silay City Drug Enforcement Unit staged in Barangay Rizal around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday led to the arrest of Jaen and the confiscation of the suspected drugs.

Jaen – a resident of Villa Herdon in Barangay Rizal – allegedly tried to evade arrest by shooting at the antinarcotics personnel who barged into his house after he sold suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer.

Senior Police Officer 1 Christopher Panes got injured.

Jaen was detained last year for drug sale allegations. He was released from jail recently and was placed under surveillance, according to the police.

In an interview, Jaen told this reporter that he has returned to selling illegal drugs after the leader of a certain Aguirre criminal group threatened to kill him.

He added that he was just forced to sell drugs and that he only wants to keep his family safe.

Jaen, detained in the lockup facility of the Silay City police station, was facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
