Ex-rebel shot dead in Toboso

BACOLOD City – A 62-year-old man – a former member of the New People’s Army – was shot in Sitio Mainit, Barangay San Isidro, Toboso, Negros Occidental on Tuesday morning.

Bienvinido Montejar, a farm laborer and Sitio Mainit resident, died.

There were three suspects, according to Police Captain Paul Kenneth Magan, Toboso municipal police chief.

The shooting happened while Montejar was having breakfast in his house. The three men, still unidentified as of this writing, came over.

A heated argument preceded the shooting.

Montejar died instantly

The three men walked away.

Police received information from the Philippine Army that Montejar surrendered to the government years back.

Magan said the three men could be rebels and Montejar may have been suspected of giving information about the NPA to the authorities./PN
