MANILA – Former Customs commissioner Nicanor Faeldon filed an ethics complaint against Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV over the latter’s accusation that he was involved in corruption.
In his 14-page complaint, Faeldon asked the Senate ethics committee on Monday to either suspend or expel Trillanes.
“Senator Trillanes, patunayan mo sa ethics committee ang iyong malisyosong paratang na ako ay ‘at the heart of the controversy’ ng P6.4-billion shabu smuggling noong May 16, 2017,” said Faeldon.
Faeldon also challenged the senator to prove his allegation that the former Customs official was involved with the Davao Group, which was suspected with facilitating the shabu shipment from China.
According to Faeldon, the complaint will compel Trillanes “to put up or shut up.”
“It is high time that we stopped chasing the bully around the schoolyard,” said Faeldon.
“Let no one suffer any more in silence,” he said. “I will stand up to him (Trillanes), on my own behalf, and on behalf of those he verbally raped and those whose character he assassinated, just because he felt like it and, worse, for media mileage for his political agenda.”
Trillanes should be “more responsible” and “more careful” with his claims, said Faeldon.
“It is very easy for him to lie,” Faeldon said. “Unang-una, sinabi niya, five times pumunta sa opisina ko si Atty. (Manases) Carpio. Hindi na niya inulit iyon kasi sabi ko isang beses lang pumunta. Sinabi niya dalawang beses si Pulong, e sabi ko never. So, he is lying.”
Pulong is President Rodrigo Duterte’s son Paolo, vice mayor of Davao City.
“Again, Senator Trillanes, sayang. You have to prove it to the ethics committee iyong mga paninira mo. Kasi you cannot just blurt out lies to destroy people,” said Faeldon.
On Sept. 18 Faeldon filed a similar complaint against Sen. Panfilo Lacson for the latter’s accusation that the former was involved in the “tara system,” or the acceptance of grease money.
In his privilege speech last month, Lacson claimed Faeldon received a P100-million “pasalubong” from smugglers./PN
