MANILA – The De La Salle University Lady Spikers got an added boost to its title-retention bid with veteran setter Kim Fajardo set to return in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament, which will open early next year.
In an interview on Tuesday evening, Fajardo said she will use her last year of eligibility to help the Lady Spikers achieve back-to-back women’s volleyball championships.
“Yes I will use my final year,” Fajardo said. “For me, it’s not right not to use it (final year of eligibility). Also I love the DLSU Lady Spikers and I want to help them win another championship.”
Fajardo added that it took a while for her to decide whether to return to the Lady Spikers squad as she has to consider several factors, including her studies and her stint in the Philippine Superliga.
“There were a lot of things I had to consider – family, masters, and PSL,” Fajardo said. “I need to make sure that, in case I decide to return to DLSU, I would be able to give my 100 percent.”
Fajardo is expected to be a welcome addition for the Lady Spikers crew, which will be playing without Ara Galang, Mika Reyes, Cyd Demecillo and Carol Cervesa and Negrense Christine Joy Soyud, who reportedly jumped ship to the Adamson Lady Falcons.
Set to return for the Lady Spikers team are Mary Joy Baron, Ernestine Tiamzon, Dawn Macandili, Desiree Cheng, Kim Dy, May Luna, Norielle Ipac and Ilongga Aduke Ogunsaya.
The Lady Spikers captured the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tiara after beating the then two-time defending champion Ateneo Lady Eagles in a thrilling three-game finals series./PN
