
BACOLOD City — A 29-year-old farmer was shot dead after being lured out of his house by five unidentified armed men in Sitio Gut-ac, Barangay Abaca, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, police said.
The victim was identified as Cyrus Tajedar, a married farmer and resident of the village.
According to the Cauayan Municipal Police Station, the attack occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on July 8. However, the incident was reported to authorities only at about 11:05 a.m. on July 9 after Barangay Captain Leonido Cumawas informed the police through a cellphone call.
Initial police investigation revealed that Tajedar was inside his residence when the armed men arrived and called him to come outside. As soon as he stepped out, one of the suspects allegedly fired at him using a high-powered firearm.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds on different parts of his body and died at the scene.
Police recovered seven spent 5.56-mm cartridge cases during the crime scene investigation.
Tajedar’s remains were brought to R and S Funeral Homes for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have launched a manhunt operation to identify and arrest the suspects, while investigators continue to determine the motive behind the fatal shooting. The Cauayan Municipal Police Station is leading the investigation./PN
