Farmer gunned down in Igbaras

ILOILO – A 68-year-old farmer died after he was shot by an unidentified gunman around 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, in Barangay San Ambrosio, Igbaras town in this province.

Arsenio Espora, a resident of the barangay, sustained a gunshot wound on his left chest.

He was rushed to Guimbal District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

According to Corporal Juvil Lama of the Igbaras Municipal Police Station, the victim and his daughter checked on their farm animals after they heard their dogs barking.

The daughter went to the piggery while Espora checked their poultry which was 30 meters away from their house.

His daughter told the police that she heard a gunshot and she immediately went to her father. When she arrived her father was already lying on the ground wounded.

Igbaras police said they are eyeing land dispute as the possible motive of the killing.

As of this writing, police were looking into a “person of interest” in the shooting incident. (With additional report from GMA Super Radyo Iloilo)/PN
