NEGROS Occidental – A 35-year-old farmer was shot to death by unidentified armed men early Thursday morning, Sept. 4, in Sitio Vergara, Barangay Bug-ang, Toboso town.
Police identified the victim only by his alias “Bemboy,” a married resident of the village.
Initial reports said the farmer had just dropped his son off at school and was riding his motorcycle home when two gunmen waylaid him around 6:45 a.m.
Police said the gunmen opened fire hitting the victim in different parts of the body, killing him on the spot.
Responding officers of the Toboso Municipal Police Station recovered at least one spent shell of a 5.56mm rifle and five empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol from the crime scene.
Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) vowed a full-scale investigation and close coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines to track down the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the killing.
“We strongly condemn this act of violence,” said PRO-NIR director Brigadier Gen. Arnold Thomas C. Ibay. “We are mobilizing all available resources to ensure justice is served for the victim and his family.
