MANILA – Noven Belleza has been crowned as noontime television show It’s Showtime’s “Tawag ng Tanghalan” grand champion yesterday at the Newport Performing Arts of Resort’s World Manila.
Belleza, a rice farmer from Victorias City, Negros Occidental, topped the combined text votes and judges’ score with 99.96 percent, followed by Sam Mangubat of Batangas (49 percent) and Froilan Canlas of Camarines Sur (45 percent).
With the victory, Belleza bagged the P2-million top prize, house and lot from Camella Homes, recording contract with ABS- CBN Channel 2’s Star Music, and musical package from JB Music.
This was Belleza’s first time to join a nationwide talent search. He belted out the inspirational song May Bukas Pa to reach the top three and mixed the classic hits of Air Supply to clinch the grand champion trophy.
“Gusto ko pong sabihin sa lahat na may gusto po akong patunayan – na kahit anong katayuan sa buhay ay hindi imposible na abutin ang pangarap basta magpursige lang,” said Belleza.
During his earlier stint on the singing show, Belleza said his family only lived off a weekly income of P1,000, and that he sacrificed his own education so that his younger siblings can get decent schooling.
“Noon naiinggit ako sa mga kasamahan ko kasi sila libro ang hawak samantalang ako kalabaw at araro,” he added. “Pero kailanman ay hindi ko ikinakahiya ang pinanggalingan ko kasi dito ako naging matibay.”
Bacolod City’s Carl Malone Montecido failed to reach the top three but took home a consolation prize of P100,000 along with fellow finalists Pauline Agupitan of Batangas and Marielle Montellano of Cebu./PN
