BACOLOD City – Operators of fast crafts serving the Bacolod-Iloilo and vice versa routes will likely impose a fare hike this February.

Weesam Express operator Frank Carbon said in a radio interview that they are still holding talks over the proposed P5 to P10 fare hike.

They need to recover some of their expenses, particularly the salaries of their employees, he explained.

According to Carbon, around 40 to 45 percent of their total operating expenses are used for fuel, which should ideally be at 30 percent.

The ferry company is also concerned about losing passengers due to fare hikes.

Carbon is also appealing to government officials to prioritize finding solutions to the country’s problems, such as on fuel, before engaging in political disputes. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
