Father allegedly shoots daughter’s ex-boyfriend

CAPIZ – An 18-year-old criminology student was seriously injured after being allegedly shot by his former girlfriend’s father inside a coffee shop in Barangay Rizal, Pontevedra in this province.

Police Major Greg Anthony Salbang, chief of the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station (PMPS), said the victim identified as alias “Nonoy” was inside the coffee shop where he works, accompanied by his peers, when two men aboard a motorcycle arrived and asked questions, on the night of June 28.

Moments later, the backrider reportedly drew a firearm and shot the victim five times before fleeing the scene, suggesting a riding-in-tandem scheme.

The victim sustained three gunshot wounds to the stomach, arm, and leg. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim had previously received threats from the suspected gunman, believed to be the father of his former girlfriend, who allegedly disapproved of their relationship. However, Barangay Rizal captain Moises Dumapig stated that the relationship had already ended prior to the incident, raising questions about the motive behind the attack.

Police recovered five spent shells from a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.

The Pontevedra MPS was still conducting a hot pursuit operation to locate and apprehend the suspects, based on the statements provided by the victim./PN
