ILOILO City – A 57-year-old man hanged himself to death in Barangay Sambag, Jaro district.
According to family members, Vicente Alvarez learned that his 27-year-old daughter was planning to marry her boyfriend and this made him angry.
They found Alvarez hanging from the ceiling of the kitchen around 7:30 a.m. yesterday. Around his neck was a wire.
According to neighbors, they last saw Alvarez alive outside his house some three hours before his body was discovered.
From what the Jaro police so far gathered, Alvarez’s daughter had a five-year-old daughter.
“We had a misunderstanding. He told me he would commit suicide with my daughter so I left the house with my child,” the daughter told the police yesterday.
Alvarez had four previous suicide attempts, the police learned.
Senior Inspector Tranquilino Querubin, Jaro police chief, had a strange theory.
“The father wanted to marry his daughter. He got mad that she had a boyfriend. He was jealous,” said Querubin.
Alvarez was a widower for some two years already./PN
