ILOILO City – No child in this city was abducted, clarified the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
A Facebook post about an alleged abduction went viral last week. The ICPO verified the allegation and this turned out to be false, said Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, city police spokesperson.
ICPO’s Intelligence Division conducted the investigation.
Sangrines said none of ICPO’s six police stations – in the City Proper, La Paz, Jaro, Mandurriao, Arevalo, and Molo – have records of the alleged child abduction.
“We thank God nga it turned out to be negative,” she said.
Sangrines urged parents not to panic and social media users to be responsible netizens.
Be discerning when sharing information, said Sangrines.
The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) made a similar appeal just a month ago following social media reports about alleged jail escapees from Masbate sowing terror in northern Iloilo.
According to Chief Inspector Aron Palomo, spokesperson of the IPPO, the chiefs of police of northern Iloilo towns (5th District) – Ajuy, Balasan, Barotac Viejo, Batad, Carles, Concepcion, Estancia, Lemery, and Sara – all denied the reports of unidentified men robbing houses, killing residents and raping young women.
“Ang nagalapta nga messages sa social media wala ina sang kamatuoran,” Palomo told Panay News.
If there are, indeed, criminal activities, the best thing to do is alert the local police and barangay officials, he stressed./PN
