MANILA – Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws recovered from a set down to score a 17-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-14 win over Ateneo Lady Eagles in the 2017 Premier V-League Collegiate Conference at the San Juan Arena.
Negrense Bernadeth Pons led the way with triple-double 16 points, 17 excellent digs and 14 excellent receptions for Lady Tamaraws.
With a 2-0 win-loss slate, the Lady Tamaraws remained on top of Group A.
Toni Rose Basas added 15 markers while Jeanette Villareal and Celine Domingo combined for 22 points.
The Lady Tamaraws also got 32 excellent sets from Kyle Negrito.
After losing the opening set, Lady Eagles were still up early in the second frame before the Lady Tamaraws went on a huge run behind Pons and Basas to turn things around and tie the match at 1-1.
The Lady Tamaraws continued the momentum early in the third set for an 8-3 lead but Lady Eagles countered with a run to come to within 15-16. It went on to Basas and Villareal late in the set for a 2-1 set lead.
The Lady Tamaraws started strong in the fourth set as it build a 14-7 lead on consecutive points by Pons. The lead grew further to 17-9 before Lady Eagles rallied to within 12-19 but points from Pons and Basas clinched the win for Lady Tamaraws.
Jhoanna Maraguinot finished with 16 points, including 12 attacks, while Kat Tolentino added 13 markers for Lady Eagles, which slid down to second place with 1-1 win-loss card.
Lady Eagles played without star Bea De Leon and Madeleine Madayag due to prior commitments, while Negrense Kassandra Gequillana failed to end the match with a knee injury./PN
