THIS year’s Dinagyang started with a bang as some 50 students from different schools in Iloilo competed for the biggest Dinagyang design competition.

Thirty college students sent their best entries online for the Shirt Digital Design Contest, while 20 high school students impressed the audience with their artistic skills in the On-the-Spot Shirt Hand Painting Contest at SM City Iloilo Event Center.  The contests were themed “Fiesta@Dinagyang.”

The activities were organized for Fiesta! Favorite Souvenirs by the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Advertising Class under Prof. Kevin Pison-Piamonte.

Students from UPV Hublag, Choristers and Modus wowed the jam-packed audience as they hit the ramp. Wearing the top 10 entries from both categories, the models danced and swayed to the Dinagyang beat during the first-ever Dinagyang Dance Fashion Show on Jan. 15.

The top winners for the Digital Design were Edel Lorraine Brasileño (CPU); Jose Rucild Surriga (STI); and Mirasol Courtney Ann (UPV).

In the On-the-Spot Hand Painting Contest, the winners were Angel Mae Centino (Iloilo National High School); Justin Brylle Otero (Oton National High School); and Heiro Granjas (Dingle National High School).

Rounding off the top 10 for the Digital Design were Donna Mae Galaez (CPU) – 4th place; Justin Catalan (UPV) – 5th and 7th; Czar Ian Angel Esquivel (UPV) – 6th; Roderick Lorenz Olivares (CSJ) -8th and 10th; and Jo Gil Sumpio (CPU) – 9th.  For the On-the-Spot Contest, the winners were Chris Jerico Moraña (INHS) – 4th place; Althea Therese Listana (ONHS) – 5th; Krsytal Jean Silao (INHS) – 6th, CJ Jurilla (INHS) – 7th; Aliza del Pilar (Fort San Pedro National High School) – 8th; Ariel Timothy Sinon (UPHS) – 9th; and Milagros Therese Tutanes (INHS) – 10th.

Fiesta Souvenirs president Atty. Jobert Peñaflorida, together with wife Rhea and PCCI Iloilo president Donna Rose Ratilla, awarded the winners.

Panay News, the biggest regional daily in the Visayas, was the co-presenter of the Dinagyang Fiesta Art Contests and Dance Fashion Show, together with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Iloilo Chapter, Amazing Planet Channel and Q Solutions./PN
