MANILA – Filipina mixed martial arts fighter Jomary Torres cruised to her second straight win in ONE Fighting Champion (ONE FC) after a unanimous decision win over Indonesian Nita Dea at Thuwanna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
It was the second victory of the 21-year-old Torres since signing with the prestigious MMA organization earlier this year.
Overall, the Zamboanga del Norte-native has a perfect 3-0-0 win-loss-draw ring record, with one stoppage win.
“I exerted tremendous amount of effort in my training because I want to keep on winning,” Torres said. “This match was my first opportunity to establish a winning run so I really prepared hard for it.”
Torres imposed her presence immediately in the opening round as she slammed the much-taller Dea to the ground which going to the mount position before peppering her opponent with head shots.
It was pretty much the same story in the second and third frame with Torres exhibiting her ground-and-pound moves on Dea, who was not able to execute her potent kickboxing skills.
Torres, however, proved to be the lone Philippine bet to raise the country flag aloft in the “ONE FC: Hero’s Dream” card as male fighter Burn Soriano, Jeremy Miado and Eugene Toquero faltered in their matches.
Soriano bowed to Chinese Chen Lei via second round technical knockout while Miado surrendered to Pongsiri Mitsatit in the second round, and Toquero was knocked down by Ma Hao Bin in the dying seconds of the first round./PN
