BACOLOD City – A new P150-million passenger terminal at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp (Bredco) port in this city opened on Wednesday, expanding the city’s capacity to accommodate ferry passengers.
A group of Filipino-Chinese businessmen invested and took over the operation of the port and its newly constructed Simplicio Palanca terminal, which is expected to accommodate about 3,000 passengers traveling between Iloilo and Manila.
Currently, the terminal only caters to Manila-bound passengers.
Operations for Iloilo-bound passengers are expected to begin in October before the Masskara Festival.
Port manager Romelo Casela said the Filipino-Chinese group will also be improving the port.
Additional warehouses and a perimeter fence will also be built and more infrastructure projects may be expected. Casela said an additional P200 million will be invested for these projects.
Casela said the terminal fee is expected to increase from the current P30, given improvements at the terminal. (ABS-CBN News)
