ILOILO City – All stations under the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 6 are on “blue code” alert for any eventualities that may occur during the observance of All Saints’ Day (Nov. 1) and All Soul’s Day (Nov. 2).
In case of fire, the public is encouraged to contact 911 or the telephone numbers of the fire stations nearest them.
Here in the city, the telephone numbers of the BFP stations are the following:

* Jaro Fire Sub-Station – 329-5700
* Lapaz Fire Sub-Station – 320 – 7790
* Bo. Obrero Fire Sub-Station – 335-1965
* Molo Fire Sub-Station – 337-6283
* Mandurriao Fire Sub-Station – 321-0779
* Arevalo Fire Sub-Station – 336-5674
* Tagbak Fire Sub-Station – 323-1309, and
* San Isidro Fire Sub-Station – 330-1507.
Under the heightened alert status, firefighters and emergency medical teams are deployed to assist in maintaining peace and order at various public cemeteries and to provide medical assistance to families cemeteries.
BFP is on 24-hour monitoring.
Aside from visiting the graves of their deceased loved ones, another tradition of Filipinos during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day is the lighting of candles. In line with this, BFP is reminding the public on the safe use of candles and as an additional measure suggested the following candle safety tips:
* Keep candles away from draughts and anything that can easily catch fire like furniture and curtains.
* Place lighted candles where they won’t be knocked over by children, pets or anyone else.
* Always place candles on a heat resistant surface. Night lights and tea lights can melt plastic surfaces.
Likewise, the BFP advised the public to never leave candles unattended and put them out completely at night.
Data from BFP Region 6 showed 27 fire incidents across the region due to unattended candles since January this year. (PIA-Iloilo/PN)
