ILOILO City – Fire struck a junkshop and warehouse in Barangay Hibao-an Sur, Mandurriao district yesterday.

No one was reported injured but the blaze at the HOL Junkshop/Warehouse caused damage worth an estimated P60,000, City Fire Marshal Christopher Regencia told Panay News.

The fire started at around 2:24 p.m. Responding personnel from the Iloilo City Fire Station declared it “under control” at 2:38 p.m. and a “fire out” at 3:11 p.m., Regencia said.

Owned by Charles Lao, the junkshop and warehouse contained sacks and bottles.

Fire investigators ruled out electricity as cause of fire. They were looking into cigarette smoking instead.

“Marami kaming nakita na cigarette butts sa area. Malamang tinapunan iyong mga sako doon at nag-ignite,” Regencia said.

“Malayo iyong electric wires e, so impossible na electrical in nature iyong cause of fire,” he added./PN
