Fire hits Negros school; P11-M damage recorded

BACOLOD City – Properties worth some P11 million went up in smoke after fire hit a Catholic school in Barangay Payao, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.

The blaze started razing the San Blas Academy – built in 1975 – around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Fire Officer 1 Jonathan Bernaldez of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Binalbagan.

Benaldez said they received the fire call at around 9:51 p.m.

The school was made of light materials that’s the why blaze spread easily.

Firefighters said the blaze was put under control at 11 p.m. An hour later, they declared a “fire out.”

Fire trucks from Hinigaran town and Himamaylan City helped in putting out the fire.

Faulty electrical wiring was the cause of the blaze, arson investigators said./PN
