ILOILO City – The city government released financial assistance to fire victims of Sitio Langka, Barangay Benedicto, Jaro district.
Mayor Jose Espinosa III led the distribution of the assistance – P5,000 each to households whose houses were totally gutted and P2,500 each to households with partially-damaged abodes.
The City and Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) recorded a total of 78 affected households in the Nov. 4 blaze.
“I know that you have yet to recover from the fire incident and hopefully this financial assistance will somehow help you in building your own house or in buying the necessity you need,” said Espinosa.
They were also given with canned goods, noodles, and rice.
Espinosa instructed barangay officials to allot a spacious passageway so it can be easily accessed during emergencies as firemen found it hard to penetrate the area during the disaster.
The Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) initially reported that electrical fire started at the second floor of the house owned by Reynaldo Ledesma.
The BFP estimated the total damages to P4 milli on.
Indira Escernuela, 47, said she would use the financial assistance to buy galvanized iron or steel for their house’s roofing.
“We were not able to save anything aside from the clothes we wear when the fire struck. Everything is back to zero but we are very thankful for the financial assistance extended by the city government,” Escernuela said.
