CAPIZ – Three individuals were arrested after authorities seized firearms and explosives from their possession during a raid in Sitio Railway, Barangay Punta Tabuc, Roxas City.
The suspects were identified as aliases “Nito”, 38, a resident of Barangay Dinginan with alleged links to criminal activities; “Arturo”, 42, of Barangay IX, who has a prior record of firearm-related offenses; and “Dennis”, 24, of Barangay Timpas, Panitan, Capiz, believed to be an associate of the two.
Police Captain Merry Chris Dela Cruz, spokesperson of the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO), said in a radio interview that the arrests were carried out by the Provincial Intelligence Unit, the Roxas City Police Station, and the 1st Capiz Police Mobile Force Company following intelligence reports about the suspects’ illegal possession of firearms.
As law enforcers moved in, Arturo and Dennis allegedly opened fire, prompting a brief standoff. No one was injured during the exchange.
Recovered from the suspects were one grenade, a .38 caliber revolver, four live rounds of ammunition, and a bag containing other suspicious items.
The three are now facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. They remain in custody at the Roxas City Police Station pending further investigation and legal proceedings./PN
