BACOLOD City — A fireworks safety seminar was held yesterday at the Pavilion Hotel here.

The Philippine Pyrotechnics Manufacturers and Dealers Association, Inc. conducted the seminar.

Undergoing the seminar during the holiday season is mandatory for firecracker and pyrotechnics manufacturers, dealers and retailers under Republic Act 7183.

Participants were given safety tips in storing, packaging, transporting, and displaying firecrackers.

Chief Inspector Noel Polines, operation chief of Bacolod City Police Office, said fireworks traders need a Fireworks Safety Certificate in applying for or renewing their business permit.

Polines said there will be another seminar in October with Civil Security Group director Gil Calaguio Meneses.

There are more than 400 firecrackers and pyrotechnics manufacturers, dealers and retailers in Western Visayas.

In Negros Occidental, Hinigaran town and Bago City are only two of the places famous for manufacturing firecrackers./PN
