ILOILO – Five job hires assigned at the Office of the Mayor in Igbaras town tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
They were all asymptomatic and have been placed under facility quarantine, Mayor Jaime Esmeralda confirmed to Panay News.
The mayor disclosed that one of the five job hires came in close contact with their father who was positive for the disease.
The municipal government already conducted contact tracing; about 40 close contacts were identified, including the mayor. Results are expected to be released today.
The Office of the Mayor has also been locked down.
“Transaction at the office of the municipal mayor is temporarily suspended starting May 10, 2021 until all test results are released. Personnel assigned at the Office of the Mayor which are COVID-19 probable and suspected cases shall undergo RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test. Office shall resume as soon as all the test results are released,” read part of Esmeralda’s memorandum.
As of May 9, Igbaras had 104 total COVID-19 cases – seven active, 94 recovered and three deaths./PN
