Roque twits Jed’s wife for Facebook rant
MANILA – “Flight is evidence of guilt,” according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
He hit back at former Iloilo City first lady Maria Victoria “Marivic” Mabilog for saying President Rodrigo Duterte did not have proof her husband, dismissed mayor Jed Patrick, was an illegal drugs protector.
Roque also dismissed Maria Victoria’s claim that the President was intent on eliminating the Mabilog couple.
“‘Yan po ay bangungot na siguro ay bunga ng kanilang mga pinanggagawa noong sila ay nasa kapangyarihan,” Roque told Panay News.
In a Facebook post, Maria Victoria stated, “We are not the party that has anything to hide. Hadlok lang kami kay patyon mo gid ya kami.”
“Siguro panaginip po niya ‘yun,” quipped Roque.
On Aug. 31, 2017 the Mabilogs left the country. This was three days after the President issued a public statement that the couple deemed was a direct threat to them.
“Mabuhay kaya siya?” Duterte said on Aug. 28, 2017 referring to the then city mayor as he announced the assignment of Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido to Iloilo City.
Espenido was the police chief of Albuera, Leyte when Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., a drug trafficking suspect, was killed in an alleged shootout inside a sub-provincial jail in Baybay City on Nov. 5, 2016. He also led the raids on the houses of the Parojinog clan in July 2017 that led to the death of Ozamiz City mayor Reynaldo Parojinog and 14 others.
Espinido’s Iloilo City assignment, however, did not push through.
“Good luck po sa kanilang bangungot,” said Roque yesterday.
In August 2016, Duterte tagged then Mayor Mabilog an illegal drug protector and repeated this in several succeeding speeches.
“It’s been a year and a half of accusations (but) no proof to show,” lamented Maria Victoria.
Roque admitted last month he was “not aware of (any) criminal charges filed against former mayor Mabilog.”
But he said, “In the event that there will be one, the authorities will have him extradited back to the Philippines.”
The Mabilogs are widely believed to be in Canada. Maria Victoria is a Canadian citizen.
On Maria Victoria’s call for Duterte to release his “validated” drug list, Roque said, “The President is not under obligation to heed any and all of the whims and caprice of private individuals.”
Mabilog vehemently denied having anything to do with illegal drugs either as user, pusher or protector./PN
