BACOLOD City – Over 290 families were affected by flood caused by the heavy downpour on Sept. 22, records from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) showed.
These families were from barangays 27, 28, 35, 39, 40, 41, Alijis, Singcang-Airport, Mandalagan, Taculing, Pahanocoy, Mansilingan, Bata, and Tangub.
Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas, cluster head of the CDRRMO, said the flood affected about 1,510 individuals.
Thirteen houses were totally destroyed while 63 others were partially damaged as of Sept. 23, according to the Department of Social Services and Development.
The total cost of damage was yet to be known.
The area along Palmas del Mar experienced a 5-feet high flood, said Vargas.
While the assessment of affected families was ongoing, the city government distributed relief goods.
The families might as well receive financial assistance, Vargas added.
The water that caused the flood came from the mountains, the CDRRMO investigation revealed.
The flood subsided around 2 a.m. on Sept. 23, it further showed.
Rescue trucks started picking up stranded residents on Friday night until the next day.
“We did not expect the flood to be that high. We have been clearing the drainage systems,” said Vargas./PN
