ILOILO City – Focus crimes across Western Visayas decreased by 20.31 percent over a one month period, according to comparative data released by the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
From May 22 to June 21, 2026, PRO-6 recorded 102 focus crime incidents – lower than the 128 cases logged between April 22 and May 21. This represents a decrease of 26 incidents, or 20.31 percent.
Among the eight focus crimes monitored by the police, homicide posted the sharpest decline, dropping by 41.67 percent. Rape incidents likewise declined by 29.17 percent while physical injury cases were down by 22.22 percent.
However, zero incidents of motor vehicle carnapping were listed during the covered period.
Police Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño, acting PRO-6 director, attributed the downward trend to the sustained conduct of crime prevention measures, intelligence-driven operations, aggressive anti-criminality efforts, and close coordination with local government units, stakeholders, and the community.
“The reduction in focus crimes is a clear indication that our intensified police operations and strengthened community partnership are producing positive results,” Tuaño said. “This accomplishment belongs to our personnel on the ground and to the communities that continue to support us.”
While welcoming the encouraging data, Tuaño stated that PRO-6 would not become complacent. The regional police command vows to sustain its enhanced crime prevention strategies and community-based policing initiatives to further improve public safety across the region.
“We are encouraged by these results, but we will not be complacent. PRO-6 will continue to intensify its efforts to prevent crimes, solve cases, and ensure that our communities remain safe and secure,” he added./PN
