ILOILO City – Former city tourism officer Benito Jimena volunteered to help the city government organize various tourism-related events.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III thus appointed him as liaison officer at the City Mayor’s Office.

Espinosa vowed to further boost the local tourism industry and give all the necessary support to the City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO).

“We need to give our all-out support to our tourism industry and if there is a department that needs our support, it is the CTDO because that office is in-charge of tourism promotion of Iloilo City,” he said.

Espinosa said Jimena volunteered for free to help the city in organizing various events such as the Dinagyang Festival, Paraw Regatta, Independence Day, Rizal Day, Bonifacio Day, and National Heroes’ Day, among others.

“He (Jimena) is there as a sort of volunteer. He will be my consultant and I will include him in a task force that will oversee all our festivals,” said Espinosa.

Jimena will be the focal person between the mayor’s office and CTDO.

He will also make sure that all the preparations including the venue and programs of events are well-prepared, Espinosa stressed.

“It needs nitty-gritty preparation for these events and I am very particular with the program during the event,” Espinosa said.

Jimena served during the time of former mayor and now congressman Jerry Treñas before he retired in 2015.

The city chief executive suggested that a tourism information center should also be put up in various government offices to further promote the metropolis. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
