VICTORIAS CITY, Negros Occidental – Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. wants Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez (3rd District) to run for senator.
His wish for the congressman, who celebrated his birthday recently, was for the latter to seek a senatorial post in 2019.
Marañon said Benitez, now on his third and final term in the House of Representatives, has a potential to occupy a Senate seat.
“Sa sunod nga election mag-senador na sia para may senador kita di sa Negros [Island Region],” the governor said.
Benitez celebrated his birthday on Dec. 20 at the Victorias City Coliseum.
The congressman wished for nothing fancy.
“[I wish] mahatagan kita sang strength and good health para mapadayon ta pa ang ginahimo naton,” Benitez said. “[Kag] bilog nga taga-Negros mahatagan sang matahum kag maayo nga kabuhi.”
‘REST, REST, REST’
“This is already my last term, and serving the people of the 3rd District is the most gratifying part of my life,” he stressed.
Pressed to disclose his plans post-congressional office, Benitez said: “Ang option ta is pahuway, pahuway, pahuway (rest, rest, rest).”
Both Marañon and Benitez belong to the ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan.
Mayors Francis Frederick Palanca of Victorias City, Neil Lizares of Talisay City and Marvin Malacon of EB Magalona, and representatives Greg Gasataya of Bacolod City and Stephen Paduano of Abang-Lingkod party-list, among others, graced the congressman’s birthday celebration./PN
