Frustrated murder suspect killed in Guimaras ambush

ILOILO City – A suspect in a frustrated murder case was shot multiple times in Barangay Bugnay, Jordan, Guimaras.

An unidentified gunman in a black Mitsubishi Montero Sport attacked Rufo Tahum, 55, of Barangay San Miguel, Jordan on Saturday.

Tahum died of multiple gunshot wounds at the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital in Jordan.

His companion, nephew John Stephen Mondia, 23, was wounded on his left leg but survived. He was taken to the same hospital.

According to Police Officer 2 Joel Ertelua, Jordan police station investigator, the shooting happened around 12:30 p.m.

Tahum and Mondia were on a tricycle bound for San Lorenzo town when shot.

Tahum was driving the motorcycle.

As of this writing, the Jordan police station remained clueless on the gunman’s identity.

Tahum was charged with frustrated murder last year. His son figured in a brawl at a videoke bar.
“Tahum had no other criminal cases. He was also not in our watch list of drug personalities,” Ertelua said.
Policemen recovered from the crime scene nine empty shells of a .9mm pistol.

“It was very likely that a contact fed the gunman information on Tahum’s whereabouts on Saturday,” said Ertelua./PN
