MANILA – Galeries Tower Highrisers secured their first win in the 2024-25 PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference with a 26-24, 25-14, 25-23 sweep over Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers at the Minglanilla Sports Complex in Cebu.

Jewel Encarnacion spearheaded the attack with 11 points, while Ysa Jimenez and Andrea Marzan contributed 10 markers apiece as the Highrisers improved to a 1-4 win-loss slate.

Julia Coronel orchestrated Galeries Tower’s offense with 10 excellent sets to go with nine points, including five service aces.

“The game plan was to put everything we’ve practiced into action. We’ve been working hard, and we can see that our team is already at a competitive level. We just needed to find a way to close it out,” said Coronel.

“Finally, this is such a special moment for us, as it’s our very first win of the conference. We’re really hoping this is just the start of many, many more victories,” she added.

Leila Cruz scored 14 points while Jorelle Singh and Heather Guino-o added 10 and five markers, respectively, for the Solar Spikers, which dropped to a similar 1-4 win-loss card.

Meanwhile, Cignal HD Spikers continued their hot start in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference, defeating NxLed Chameleons in straight sets, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23.

Vanessa Gandler finished with 13 points, built on nine attacks, three blocks, and a service ace, to be named Player of the Game as the HD Spikers stretched their unbeaten record to four matches.

“I am really happy with my team; it was a total team effort, and we were able to survive the distractions that happened,” Gandler said, referring to the power outage that delayed the third set for over an hour.

“We still need to improve our connections and avoid making errors consistently; we will just keep working from here,” she added. “Personally, I just want to continue being a team player here.”/PN
