BACOLOD City – Mayor Greg Gasataya, along with his appointed executive assistants and co-terminus employees, voluntarily underwent drug testing yesterday, June 30, just hours before officially assuming office at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC).
The drug tests were conducted at the City Health Office (CHO) prior to their formal entry into service at 12:01 p.m. the same day.
The city mayor presented his test results to members of the media, confirming that he tested negative for methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active component of marijuana.
“This is done before assumption of office, followed by the submission of necessary documents,” he explained.
While the drug test is not mandatory for all city employees, Mayor Gasataya clarified that it is required for his appointed personnel, including executive assistants and other co-terminus staff.
“It’s not a general requirement for all employees — it’s voluntary. But for those I appointed, it is mandatory,” he said.
The mayor emphasized that the initiative is part of promoting a drug-free workplace, in line with the national government’s anti-drug campaign.
“We should lead by example. Even if it’s not mandatory for elected officials, I believe we should still submit ourselves to the process,” Mayor Gasataya said.
