BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Provincial Board member Alain Gatuslao was personally extending government service to social media.
Gatuslao has created a Twitter account, @LawCommittee, in the hope of letting online constituents access and monitor the work of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s committee on laws, ordinances and good government.
“The main purpose of the Twitter account is for information dissemination and taking reports on fake consumer goods,” said the committee chairman.
The Board member will also post the agenda of their weekly sessions on Twitter starting Wednesday, Dec. 21.
Currently the account has 20 followers. “I have not yet promoted it to my Facebook friends and followers. Maybe next year,” he said.
Gatuslao has three Facebook accounts where he has over 12,500 friends and more than 3,000 followers all in all. He said “90 percent” of them were from the 5th District.
He said there was no need for the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to approve his initiative.
“No need for approval,” Gatuslao told Panay News in a text message. “Nothing secret sa amon agenda. Only matters covered under executive session is [sic] what we cannot share. Besides, kis-a man lang kami ga-executive session.”
“No government funds are being used and the information is for public,” he added. “I hope to institutionalize it via ordinance early next year so that any chair succeeding myself [sic] can continue it.”
Gatuslao also suggested to Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, their presiding officer, to have their sessions shown live on social media./PN
