Generika-Ayala drubs Sta. Lucia in PH Superliga

MANILA – Generika-Ayala Lifesavers carved out a 25-17, 20-25, 25-14, 25-9 victory over Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors in the 2019 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the San Juan Arena.

Ilongga Fiola Ceballos top-scored with 16 points, including 15 spikes on Thursday night while Bacolodnon Patty Jane Orendain had double-double 15 points and 16 excellent digs.

Marivic Meneses also submitted double-figures scoring with 11 points while Mary Ann Mendrez stepped up for injured Angeli Araneta with eight markers.

The Lifesavers moved to third spot with 7-5 win-loss slate.

“Kahit nakakuha ng isang set ang Sta. Lucia nabawi naman nila sa last set. Malaki ‘yung score,” said Lifesavers head coach Sherwin Meneses. “Naging okay naman din kasi first time talaga na hindi maglalaro si (Araneta).”

Except for a shocking defeat in the second set, the Lifesavers overwhelmed the Lady Realtors in all departments in each of the sets they’ve secured.

Rachel Austero finished with nine points, including five service aces, as the Lady Realtors ended the preliminary round with a 2-12 win-loss card.

In the first game, Cignal HD Spikers easily disposed Foton Tornadoes, 25-23, 21-25, 25-14, 25-21, to cop its third straight win for a 6-5 win-loss record for fourth spot in the standings.

Rachel Anne Daquis finished with 18 points and 25 digs while Mylene Paat chipped in 17 markers.

Setter Alohi Robins-Hardy submitted 15 markers on top of 24 of the HD Spikers’ 26 excellent receptions in the match./PN
