GENERIKA-AYALA Lifesavers recovered from a first set defeat to score a 26-28, 25-22, 25-11, 25-16 win over Central Philippine University Golden Lions in an exhibition game at the Bingawan Civic Center in Bingawan, Iloilo.
Led by Bingawan native Fiola Ceballos and La Carlota, Negros Occidental native Patty Jane Orendain, Lifesavers imposed its will in the last three sets to stave off the tough Golden Lions.
Golden Lions managed to keep in step with Lifesavers in the opening set behind Chrisann Susbilla and Glaudine Trongcoso to snatch the set despite the latter playing with imports Darlene Ramdin and Katrina Pilepic.
Lifesavers went with all-Filipino in the second frame behind Ceballos, Orendain and Angeli Araneta to prevent Golden Lions from another upset and level the set count at 1-1.
Generika-Ayala Lifesavers continued to rely on its local players in the third and fourth set as they jumped to an early double-digit advantage before preventing the runs of Golden Lions.
“This is a good tune up for us as we prepare for the upcoming Philippine Superliga season,” said Lifesavers assistant coach Parley Tupaz. “Our [players are] slowly building chemistry among each other, especially that we have a number of new players.”
In the preliminary match of the event that was held as part of the Bingawan town fiesta, Bingawan Selection scored a straight-set victory over Passi City Selection./PN
