MANILA – With six players already assured of their spots, six more slots are set to be filled up.
The Gilas Pilipinas national men’s basketball team is set to unveil today its 12-man roster for the 2019 FIBA World Cup later this month in China.
Gilas head coach Joseller “Yeng” Guiao already identified naturalized center Andray Blatche, June Mar Fajardo, Roger Pogoy, Jeth Troy Rosario, Gabriel Norwood, and Japeth Aguilar to make up half of his lineup.
Among those battling out for the remaining six spots of the national team are Matthew Wright, Raymond Almazan, Andy Mark Barroca, Beau Belga, Robert Bolick, Paul Lee, John Paul Erram, Kiefer Ravena, and Jaymar Perez.
Marcio Lassiter is expected to miss the World Cup. He has yet to recover from his injury.
Jordan Clarkson, Stanley Pringle and Christian Standhardinger are also out; they are considered naturalized players.
Guiao said the final Gilas Pilipinas roster will be decided based on the national men’s basketball team’s performance in their two-day friendly match with Adelaide 36ers over the weekend.
The national men’s basketball team will first face No. 13 ranked Italy on Aug. 31, No. 4 ranked Serbia on Sept. 2 and No. 39 seed Angola on Sept. 4./PN
