MANILA – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings is taking in a familiar figure in its 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign starting middle of April – at least for a certain period of time.

Shane Edwards will come in as Kings’ temporary import, with original choice Justin Brownlee still tied up with San Miguel Beer-Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League.

“We’re going with Shane until Justin finishes his obligations with the ABL,” said Kings head coach Tim Cone. “He will be with us until May 2, when the ABL season is expected to end.”

Edwards, a 30-year-old 6-foot-7, had impressive numbers – 22.1 points and 11.9 rebounds – when he played for Alaska Aces as substitute import in the 2015-2016 PBA season.

In the NBA Edwards was signed to a 10-day contract by Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2013-2014 NBA season where he played for two games.

“It’s good to be back. It’s a very good league coming up. I’m excited to be back,” said Edwards. “Ginebra is really big, really good program, really good organization. I’m super excited. I can’t wait to get here and get ready to work.”

“They’ve got some of the best fans around the world. It will definitely be a great experience to come play in front of the spectacular crowd. It will be exciting for me,” he added.

Prior to his Ginebra stint, Edwards suited up for CLS Knights of Surabaya in the ABL, where he had decent averages but failed to help his team advance in the competition./PN
