MANILA – New recruits including a Negrense and an Ilonggo are expected to firm up the roster of Global Cebu FC.
One of its new acquisitions in a massive recruitment in the offseason that followed its loss in the 2017 Philippines Football League is the 25-year-old Gerardo “Jinggoy” Valmayor III.
The native of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental moved after his former team Meralco Manila Sparks FC disbanded.
Valmayor is expected to be a huge addition to Global Cebu. He has led the University of the Philippines to multiple titles while playing for the Philippine Azkals.
Aside from the former UAAP Rookie of the Year, also moving to Global Cebu this season are former Meralco Manila Sparks players Florencio Badelic Jr., Curt Dizon, Daniel Gadia, and Jordan Jarvis.
Global Cebu also tapped Marjo Allado as interim head coach after not renewing the contract of Indonesian mentor Akbar Nawas.
It was the second time for Allado – a native of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo – to be appointed as Global Cebu’s interim head coach.
Aside from the Cebuano team, Allado is also the head coach of the University of Santo Tomas football squad./PN
